The last time I saw Declan St. James was at our rehearsal dinner. That was shortly before he jilted me at the altar. To avoid the swarm of whispers and finger pointing every time I dared to show my face in public, I fled two hours south to Atlanta and never looked back. Over the last decade, I’d planned hundreds of scenarios about how our next meeting would go down. The expletives I’d hurl at him. Which knee I might use to annihilate his balls. Which dimpled cheek on his ridiculously handsome face I would send a stinging slap across. But being elbow deep in a cow’s ass was not one of them. Normally, I didn’t get up close and personal to a bovine’s rectum. At least not since veterinarian school. But desperate times found me back home to attend my grandfather’s funeral, who happened to be the town’s large animal vet. Those two facts had left me wading through manure in Roy Wallace’s pasture to care for a distressed heifer. While time and maturity seemed to have changed him from the boy I knew, I still wasn’t falling for his charm. Or his hard, chiseled body. Or ass you could eat dinner off of. No, I wasn’t going back down that street again. Unfortunately, Declan didn’t seem to get the message. Instead, he seemed as stubborn as he ever was and ready for a fight. It’ll be the fight of his life for me to let him back in my heart.
Maybe I would find a Prince Charming, but even if I didn’t, my life would matter. I would matter.

Not my first read by author, actually she was I believe my 4th or 5th read ever when I started many moons ago, so since then I have loved her books! And the fact that she hasn’t published since last year Winter, score I was SUPER EXCITED FOR THIS!
This was something NEW to me from the author, I am I guess you can say expecting something from her because of all her books I’ve read so something new is always interesting and fun from a top favorite author of yours. This was VERY SWEET!!
It starts of with a castration, okay well a surgery..haha nope not human but pet even though I am sure after what Declan did, I’d want to castrate him. The funny part will be when you find out WHAT is in the dog’s stomach *face palm* anyways, Dr. Beasley is a Vet and a successful one at that.
When horrible news hits Peyton, she is going back to the one town she swore she’s stay away from after that sad day a decade ago. She feels very guilty for not being there more with and for her grandfather and now is attending his funeral. When she went back to town she didn’t think that the first time seeing Declan would be while her hand is knee deep in a cow’s ass literally…what’s worse is she lands in some cow manor just to make a point that her life was in the shits. But she can never forget that dreadful day and painted Declan as the evil villen after and that’s what she is keeping to.
When she finds out some news a couple days later, she is shocked at everything…not knowing and especially knowing that Declan was IN THE KNOW more than her, hurt even more. So she sets to make her point, being bull-headed and all. Declan though had some other ideas, but got squashed right after he found out the news himself. Basically from then on it’s GAME ON!
As I am always honest in my review’s, I was a little frustrated with this story. To ME okay ME, it just was there but wasn’t there. So reading it was great, Katie Ashley has fantastic writting skills what threw me off is the characters, it just seems a little blah and a little forced at times. Once you read it in one smooth try it seems okay but again I can’t put my finger on it. Don’t get me wrong it was everything I wanted from the author I just, maybe because I am sued to her more harder one’s and this is a sweet one.
The story contains laughs, drama, tragedy, lot’s of heart and romance. Declan YOU WILL LOVE HIM SO MUCH (maybe not the part of what he did at the beginning) but his redemption is beyond BEAUTIFUL! Payton is a little here and there, YES she has the right o be because of what he did but at times she was very harsh which in her redemption from that is beautiful all on it’s own. The side characters are equally great and this story is from the heroine’s POV only! It’s a story of second chance romance with a twist and a VERY SLOW BURN one at that!!
