This is a NEW to me author and books. The reason I signed up for this was because of the blurb and yes I also liked the cover, it appealed to me! And this had a turn of events…just wasn’t what I expected it to be..in a good-ish sort of way! I will warn you now, this has TRIGGERS of graphic depiction of violence and non-consensual sex .
Damian comes from a abusive childhood, he couldn’t do anything back then when his father went too far and killed his mother…that said, when he moves in next to a beautiful woman who is in an abusive relationship, of course his instinct is to help her out. Their relationship is not what you’d think, it kind of happens fast and the transition caught me off guard if that makes sense. Lilah is a woman who had a great childhood and growing up but is with a man that she didn’t think would ever be what he is…when Damian comes to her rescue she kind of just jump on board. That’s one thing the reason the transition caught me off guard…it was too easy. But them going forward is no cake in the park just because one saved the other…that’s the thing they have to learn to save each other together and not from one another!
I was a little disappointed I didn’t connect fully with the story, the writing is fantastic I just couldn’t get there. The characters are well written just seem a little jumbled at times. Aside from that I loved it, the story line in general. I would most likely still try another book by this author, because this is only Book 1 in the series so, I will be looking forward to more.
