To be clear, I didn’t want a bodyguard (hence the fake dating idea). Most days, I can’t figure out why he wants the job either. We drive each other insane, probably because we’re as opposite as two people can be.
He’s suspicious, never talks about his past and has the comfort skills of a cactus. I’m a happily ever after kinda girl who knows exactly what she wants out of life.
Erik’s words might say that the lines have to stay firm between us, but those dark eyes of his? They tell another story when he looks at me.
He’s just as stubborn as I am, but when our fake dating plan starts to feel a lot more real, it’s only a matter of time before his professional walls come crashing down.

NEW to me author turned TOP 2022 read! I fell in love with this from page one. It has a ‘The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata’ feel and I LOVED IT! That sweet sweet slow burn!
Erik Wilder is a former NFL star turned Body-Guard. Lydia Pierson comes from a power-couple as parents with a golden heart. She is 22 and he is in his 30’s so you have that age-gap feel as well. I was afraid that the heroine was not going to stand up to it but she delivered. Strong, mature, sweet OH SO SWEET and super smart. Loves her parents, her sister, the game and well her life. She is a go-happy girl that really is just genuine and smart. When she gets assigned a body-guard due to some issue happening, she is mad but also a little fascinated with the big broody and angry looking man. Erik was in over his head with this little woman who was drop dead gorgeous but with the brain to back it up. How he let it turn into fake-dating, he wasn’t even sure but Lydia has a go-forward attitude that you just want to play along with. The crush Lydia has on Erik is strong, she thinks it’s one sided but deep down Erik in all his broody-ness couldn’t stop imagining a life with her. He wasn’t always the way he is now, but after a heart-break in many ways, he just was not ready to move on.
What I LOVED about this is the sweet slow burn. The tension, the spunkiness of the heroine, the broody angry don’t talk a lot hero and all the chemistry and sizzles between them. Their first kiss gave me butterflies! I will most definitely read more by this author and am looking forward to more.
