Not my first read by the author, I have read all of her books including all the books in this series. This one I have a feeling might actually break me!
I was right, this did break me! All the emotions I felt during this book were so real I forgot I was reading. This also happen to have my favorite trope: age-gap/grumpy hero and the fact that this has a broken heroine but she is still strong…the whole the hero being grumpy and mean but has a secret soft spot for his heroine…***SWOON****
Shy has been through so much since she was 10 and that scared her, even after almost a decade she is still stuck. Stuck in her head, can’t be touched, scared to interact and is just lost. She has been going to Ramsey’s ranch for many years, never approaching just watching him heal all the horses and work. They both had a silent understanding, Ramsey’s dog that’s part wolf loved Shy and he usually sits with her as she watches. Shy feels safe and contend when she is watching Ramsey work. When they talked for the first time it was an instant connection, the chemistry between these two is almost not recognizable but there on it’s own. I don’t’ know how else to word it, just meant to be for one another. They both open up to each other and Ramsey’s protection towards her amps up after she is on his land and in his home. Danger lurks everywhere btu especially because of their past. When it comes knocking Ramsey will do anoyhing to keep Shy safe. But sometimes not even that is enough. Shy is a strong woman and can hold her own for being what she’s been through and when the danger strikes in numbers, she is not sure how strong she can be. But Ramsey will turn the world upside down to find her. I will say that both H&H’s heart are just so beautiful, them around the 2 boys they do their best to protect and help just will melt your heart, it’s wholesome and heartbreaking all in the same.
What a thrill this was. You get the broody hero, the broken heroine, their pasts, chemistry, the best first kiss and the little touches. This book just takes you in and you will never want to leave.
